As Singapore’s population ages, it is imperative that we create a safer and more conducive living environment for our seniors to age-in-place. As part of Age Well SG, which aims to support seniors to age actively at home and within the community, the Ministry of National Development (MND) has implemented various senior-friendly enhancements across our public and private estates.

These include estate-level upgrading programmes such as the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme and Silver Upgrading Programme for public housing estates as well as the Estate Upgrading Programme and the Estate Upgrading Programme (Silver Estate) for private estates.

Within the homes, we have the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) for HDB flats. Residents selected for HIP can also opt for a range of senior-friendly fittings under the Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE). We have expanded the range of senior-friendly items under the EASE 2.0 programme.

With the strong support and positive feedback from HDB residents, MND will now expand EASE to include households with seniors living in private properties. This is to encourage private property households with seniors to install senior-friendly enhancements within their homes, enhancing the safety and well-being of our seniors. Under the Enhancement for Active Seniors (Private Housing) Programme (‘EASE (Private)’), all Singapore Citizen households living in private properties, with at least one senior[1], will be eligible to engage a contractor from a pre-qualified list, to supply and install a selected range of senior-friendly fittings that will be made available under the programme. MND will provide subsidies to all eligible households under EASE (Private). The subsidy will cover 75% of the cost of selected senior-friendly fittings, up to a cap of $1,200. More than 70,000 households with seniors living in private properties would be able to benefit from EASE (Private).

EASE (Private) will be rolled out as a three-year programme, and it is targeted to be launched by the first quarter of 2026. More details will be shared closer to the launch date.
