Dr Koh Poh Koon Leads Farming Industry On Study Visit to Japan
Adoption of advanced farming technology may enable greater output from limited land, potentially supporting more productive and resilient use of Singapore’s agricultural sites.
Dr Koh Poh Koon led an industry visit to high-tech farms and research facilities in Japan from 18 to 23 July 2016.

Dr Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for National Development, and Trade and Industry is visiting Japan from 18 to 23 July 2016.
In Japan, Dr Koh will visit several high-tech vegetable farms and research facilities in Osaka, Chiba and Tokyo. He will also meet the Japan Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Hidemichi Sato, to discuss policies and support which the Japan Government provides for high-tech farming.
Dr Koh said, “Our agricultural sector, though small, plays a strategic role in Singapore’s food security. With the increasing impact of climate change and global urbanisation, we need to find ways to secure our own food sources. Through this trip, I hope to share with our farming industry the advanced technologies which are available for them to tap on, to develop their capabilities and to become more productive and resilient. Using technology, our farms may be able to grow even more with less land. ”
Dr Koh is accompanied by officials from the Ministry of National Development, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority and other government representatives, as well as representatives from the industry and institutes of higher learning.
